Lophophora williamsii, also known as peyote cactus, is a small, spherical plant. The cactus is usually 2-10 cm in diameter and can grow up to 6 cm high. The surface is smooth and can be blue-green or gray-green in color. The cactus has five to 13 ribs covered with aeroles.
The areoles, located along the ribs, are where the cactus' flowers develop. The flowers of Lophophora williamsii are small and pink in color.
Lophophora williamsii is traditionally used by indigenous peoples in Mexico as a medicinal plant and for religious purposes.
